This is the shocking moment a vehicle is flipped on its side and dragged downstream by a torrential flood resulting in the death of 5 passengers, including a woman and her 10-year-old niece.

The incident occurred in the Dhi Al-Saffal District in central Yemen last Friday (13th August).

The footage shows the overturned vehicle being dragged downstream by the torrent of muddy water whilst locals try to save the people trapped inside.

Local news site Albayan reports that the vehicle, which was carrying several women and children was washed away as it attempted to cross the torrent of water.

In the footage, locals can be seen attempting to save the terrified passengers using a make-shift rope that they appear to have fashioned by tying together t-shirts and sheets.

Albayan added that there was no bridge in the area, leaving the driver with no choice but to try and cross the river.

The incident resulted in the death of five people according to local media

Local media has not identified the victims but according to Albayan a young boy who was in the vehicle survived the incident along with the driver.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported on Saturday (14th August) that torrential rain in Yemen had destroyed homes and resulted in countless deaths and injuries.
