This is the moment a torrent of water pours into a busy shopping centre from the ceiling after a pipe burst in heavy rain.

The incident took place in a shopping centre called Mall San Pedro in the canton of Montes de Oca in the province of San Jose in Costa Rica.

In the video, a torrent of water can be seen gushing from the ceiling into a shop as onlookers stop to watch and take pictures with their mobile phones.

According to local media, one of the pipes which goes through the roof of the shop burst after heavy rains hit the area this week.

Employees of the shop reportedly tried to contain the torrent in an attempt to save the products inside.

The video was widely shared online with netizens making jokes about the incident. Facebook user ‘alejandra.zamora’ wrote: “Rain of discounts,”, and ‘chucho.vega.1671’ also commented: “I think that looks more like a collapse of the pies than a consequence of the rains.”

Local media report the shopping centre refused to comment on the incident when contacted. It is unclear if any damage was done to the shops and no injuries have been reported.
