This is the moment a military cop reportedly beats his girlfriend – punching her on the ground and smashing her head into a wall in front of a young child – after she called him a “clown”.
The incident occurred at the function room of the block of flats where the police sergeant lives in the town of Campos dos Goytacazes in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro and was recorded by CCTV cameras.
The video allegedly shows the unnamed Military Police sergeant pushing his partner to the floor at her daughter’s 13th birthday party.
The pair are on the floor in front of a young girl, reportedly his daughter, seven years old, when the man seemingly punches the woman’s face.
He then appears to pin her down by her neck before they both get up. Local media report he then took his daughter to the lift before returning and grabbing the woman by her hair and smacking her head into a wall.
The victim told local television channel Inter TV that the argument started when they were cleaning the space and saw there was no broom.
She says her husband asked her to get a broom from his flat but she told him “to stop being a clown” as the building should provide the brooms, but he reportedly took offence and became aggressive.
The victim reported the case to the police and an investigation was launched.
The suspect reportedly handed himself into the authorities with a medical certificate saying he had psychological problems.
The Military Police said in a statement: “The Commander of the unit took away his gun and referred him to the medical board. The officer then presented a medical certificate indicating he has psychological problems.
“An investigation was opened and the police station and the Public Prosecution Service were called to conduct the legal proceedings.”
The victim underwent a medical check and was transferred to the Ferreira Machado Hospital. She is reportedly in a stable condition and is still under observation. Reports state she is suffering from strong headaches and bruising to her arms, back, and legs, with swelling to her face.
The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if the suspect has been charged.
