This is the moment three men savagely beat up the boyfriend of Miss Turkey 2018 apparently in revenge for him throwing a businessman in the sea.
CCTV cameras captured the brutal attack on 32-year-old software engineer Yigit Marcus Aral, who is the boyfriend of Sevval Sahin, who was crowned Miss Turkey in 2018.
The attack took place while he was walking home in the district of Beyoglu in the Turkish city of Istanbul on the night of Monday, 20th September.
The three men approached Aral from behind and started to taunt him. An argument ensued, and Aral then attempted to run away.
However, the men caught up with him and knocked him to the ground before punching and kicking him over several minutes.
After the attack, the three men fled the scene while passersby came to the injured man’s aid. However, they were swiftly apprehended by police officers on patrol.
The suspects have been named as Ahmet C., 22, Bunyamin K., 22, and Abdurrahman K., 19, with Aral telling the police that he did not know the men, who were later released pending trial.
Aral believes the attack may have been in revenge for an incident in which he stormed into a waterside restaurant and threw a businessman named Kerem Kamisli in the sea.
He carried out the assault when he caught the man having dinner with Sahin, with whom he had broken up days earlier, in June.
Aral said that the men who attacked him in the latest incident said “Kerem sends his greetings” before they started to beat him up.
Aral became known in Turkey due to his relationship with Sahin. The pair spent one and a half years together before separating in June, only to later get back together.
He gained notoriety for the incident in which he threw the businessman in the sea, with the latter attempting to take him to court on charges including attempted murder.
The three young men who attacked Aral will answer to charges of ‘deliberate injury’. It is not clear if Kamisli is also under investigation for the incident.
