A stray cat with three legs has given birth to a two-legged kitten in Turkey.

A kitten with three legs was born a few years ago in the neighbourhood of Alibaba in the Turkish province of Tunceli. The stray cat, that many residents thought would not survive, grew up and recently became a mother.

The three-legged cat recently gave birth to three kittens and one only has two legs.

Local residents believe both cats could benefit from prosthetic limbs and asked for help on social media.

Alibaba citizen Cinar Topac, who said it was the first time he had ever seen a two-legged cat, commented: “As the mother only has three legs, a prosthetic would help her walk more comfortably.

“However, the other one only has two legs and has difficulties walking because they are both on the left side. If it could be taken to a vet, prosthetic limbs could be attached.”

After a request for help was posted on social media, one Facebook user said: “These cats are special, it is not possible for them to survive in an environment where normal cats find it hard to survive. They need to be adopted as soon as possible.”

Another netizen commented: “This is obviously a genetic disorder. The mother and kittens need to be neutered immediately. They should prevent more offspring being born this way.”

It is unclear if any local animal groups plan to help the stray cat family.
