A lottery club from the USA made up of nearly 80 emergency room employees has collected a USD 1 million prize at the beginning of the new year.
A total of 78 nurses, doctors, and other healthcare workers from Traverse City, Michigan, USA, hit the jackpot after they matched five white balls in the drawing on Monday, 31st October 2022.
The members of the so-called Heroes to Zeroooos Lottery Club were reportedly ecstatic when they figured out that their chosen numbers (13, 19, 36, 39 and 59) had won them USD 1 million (GBP 822,660).
The club’s representative BJ Bossert Jr., reportedly bought the winning ticket at the CVS pharmacy, located at 626 West Front Street in Traverse City.
Bossert Jr. said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “The Heroes to Zeroooos lottery club started several years ago.
“There are about 65 members who consistently play, but anyone can throw in money whenever they choose.
“I created a Facebook page for the club where I post who contributed for the drawing and then the results the morning after each drawing.”
He then explained more about the lucky event and said: “I purchased a Powerball ticket the afternoon of the drawing and then checked the results the next morning at about 4:30am.
“When I saw we had won USD 1 million, I was in shock!
“I posted in the Facebook group and said I had a special announcement coming later that day and planned to share the good news when I was done with work.
“A few hours later, I posted an article on the Facebook page about a USD 1 million winning Powerball ticket being sold in Traverse City.
“After I shared the article, club members began frantically reaching out asking if it was our club who had won, and that’s when I shared the big news!”
Each of the club members received a USD 12,800 cheque (GBP 10,500) from the MiddleCoast Brewing Company in January 2023.
Bossert Jr. said: “Everyone in our club is ecstatic. This prize is a nice bonus for all of us around the holidays.”
The Michigan Lottery stated that the last time the Powerball jackpot was won was on Saturday, 19th November 2022.
They said: “One ticket bought in Kansas won the USD 93 million (GBP 76,6 million) jackpot. The jackpot for Saturday’s drawing stands at USD 325 million (GBP 267,7 million).”
