The 16-year-old, named only Toni M. by local media in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, due to Germany’s strict privacy laws, waited for his victim Andreas G. outside a supermarket.

When the 48-year-old alleged child molester left the Lidl store, Toni M. allegedly attacked him with a knife.

The teen was accompanied by a friend of the same age in the incident in the city’s tough Nordstadt neighbourhood on 29th August.

CCTV images obtained by Newsflash show the pair, who covered their faces with bandanas as they waited outside the supermarket, running away after the knife attack.

The duo and another lad, 15, who had been on the lookout at the corner, fled the scene, leaving their victim with serious stab wounds. Shocked shoppers applied first aid until an ambulance arrived.

Doctors fought to save Andreas G.’s life for several days but he passed away due to the large amount of blood he had lost.

Toni M. turned himself in at a police station later on the same day.

State prosecutor Gulkiz Yazir said: “The 16-year-old was accompanied by a lawyer when he turned up at a police station at around 11.30 pm. He remains in custody.”

Toni M.’s friends were released after being detained and interrogated.

Main suspect Toni M., who comes from a fractured family and most recently lived with his grandmother, told cops that his victim had sexually abused his brother and his sister.

Local media said the teen has been infuriated over the lack of action by the authorities as the alleged incidents date back to 2017 to 2020.

In April 2021, Andreas G. was charged but remained a free man, with no trial date set.

An unnamed relative of Toni M.’s told local media: “He’s a good lad, a fine person.”

A friend of the family is quoted as saying: “He has always been polite and kind. He had excellent manners. He always made a good impression overall.”

Toni M.’s lawyer, Jens Jansen, told local media on 7th September: “My client was informed yesterday that the victim had died. The news had a profound effect on him.”

Speaking to local media, lawyer Dr Arabella Pooth emphasised that the teen would most likely not spend life behind bars if found guilty of murder.

The Dortmund-based lawyer explained: “Due to his age, the suspect would be charged under juvenile law. The educational aspect plays an important role in such cases.”
