This dramatic video shows a drink-driver slamming into a roundabout as the car topples over and slides 165 feet in a shower of sparks before crashing backwards into a road sign.

Traffic camera footage from the town of Shatian, which is in Dongguan City in South China’s Guangdong Province, shows driver Mr Li speeding along a thoroughfare with his hazard lights on when he encounters the roundabout on 31st December.

He was in the car with a passenger, also a man, and the video shows him turning at the last second as he collides with the kerb, flipping his car onto its side.

The video shows bright sparks flying through the air as his vehicle slides more than 50 metres (165 feet) along the ground and crashes backwards into a road sign, which breaks on impact.

A group of around half a dozen rescuers comes to Mr Li’s aid, righting his overturned car and allowing him to climb out the driver’s side window to safety.

According to the police, neither Mr Li nor his male passenger was harmed during the crash, which happened after the pair had attended their company’s year-end function.

Mr Li had reportedly had one bottle of beer and was found to be over the legal driving limit, the police said.

As he awaits trial, Mr Li is expected to pay in full damages caused to public property.

He will also serve a five-year driving ban for his drink-driving offence.
