This is the moment police in Spain storm an illegal cockfight with almost 200 participants where four birds had already been killed for ‘sport’.
Police also seized eight with serious injuries who were treated by vets, and also seized drugs and weapons at the event.
The incident took place in the town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, in the southern Spanish province of Cadiz, in the region of Andalusia where cops also found four dead cocks and eight injured.
They seized a total of 197 people who were participating in the spectacle, among them owners, gamblers, fans and people selling items associated with the sport such as medicines and performance-enhancing drugs to be used on the birds without a vets licence.
A 33-year-old man, whose name has not been revealed, was arrested for ‘currency falsification’ after cops found fake bank notes among his 2,950-EUR (2,455-GBP) stash.
Meanwhile, the owner of the venue where the incident took place was sanctioned for allowing the use of drugs on the premises.
According to local media, the operation occurred after police were tipped off about the alleged illegal ‘cockfighting championship’.
The alleged organisers of the cockfight are being investigated for animal abuse and crimes against the protection of flora and fauna.
