Dena Shibani was snatched at gunpoint by security agents in Qeshm, Hormozgan Province, on 10th November, foreign-based opposition media reported.

She is believed to have been taken to the notorious detention centre Facility No. 100 in Shiraz, Fars Province.

Dena had travelled to Qeshm earlier on 10th November to visit her sister. Both siblings’ mobile phones and laptops were allegedly confiscated during Dena’s arrest.

Since her detention, Dena – who is also a graphic artist – has reportedly only been allowed to make one phone call to her family.

Iranian alpine skier and Olympian Forough Abbasi revealed in a social media post that her friend had earlier received but declined the opportunity to emigrate to Canada.

She wrote: “She stayed because she did not believe in leaving. She remained to train athletes. There is no place for a coach and an elite in a detention centre.”

It is not clear why Dena was arrested, but Iranian security agents have been accused of abducting numerous athletes who have expressed anti-regime sentiment or who have simply forgone the Islamic Republic’s mandatory hijab, like Dena in these photos.
