Massachusetts State Lottery said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Raymond Roberts Sr. of Fall River is the winner of six $25,000 a year for life prizes in the multi-state Lucky for Life game after matching the first five numbers on six tickets he purchased for the drawing that took place Wednesday, December 14.”

He decided, in the end, to take a lump sum for five of the winning tickets, landing him a cool USD 390,000 (GBP 319,523) five times, which meant USD 1,950,000 (GBP 1,597,615).

For the six tickets, he opted to go for the USD 25,000 (GBP 20,482) per month for life.

Asked why he had made the bizarre decision to buy six tickets the same for the Lucky for Life drawing at Royal Liquors in Fall River, he described it as “intuition”.

He added that he felt good about the numbers, which are a combination of anniversary dates and birthdays, although he also admitted he had been feeling good about the numbers for more than 20 years and it was finally time for the big payout.

Asked about what he wanted to do with the cash, the white-bearded winner said he planned to buy himself a brand-new motorbike and take to the road before planning what to do with the rest of it.

He is not the only winner, as the storekeeper who sold the ticket will get a USD 5,000 (GBP 4,100) bonus, which works out obviously as a bonus and six tickets means a total of USD 30,000 (GBP 24,500).

Each ticket costs USD 2 (GBP 1.64), with anybody taking part having to choose five numbers between one and 48 together with a single lucky ball number between one and 18.
