The two pranksters filmed drinking from juice bottles in a Singaporean supermarket before putting them back on the shelves are facing jail after they were arrested.

The incident was filmed at a FairPrice supermarket in the island city-state of Singapore in February and the footage was widely shared on social media with the caption: “How to spread Wuhan.”

In the footage, a teenager is seen taking a juice product from the supermarket shelf before taking a large swig as his pal films him.

He then grimaces and seals the bottle before returning it to the shelf.

As a staff member walks nearby, the boy opens another bottle and samples it while his friend is heard sniggering in the background.

The Twitter user who reposted it admitted the video was downloaded from another social network and said they had decided to repost it with the coronavirus reference because they wanted to highlight the teenagers’ irresponsible action.

The people in the video underlined that the video was meant as a personal joke between friends and was not intended to be used by someone else to try and make a viral statement.

The suspects in the video, both aged 17 years, were reportedly arrested on 8th April for causing a public nuisance.

The two youths will be charged in court today under Section 290(b), Chapter 224 of the Penal Code, according to reports.

If the teens are found guilty, they could face up to three months in prison or a fine of 2,000 SGD (1,132 GBP) or both.

Meanwhile, the Singapore police reiterated that they will not tolerate behaviour that causes public alarm during the COVID-19 outbreak.

After the incident was widely shared on social media, one of the teens posted: “I sincerely apologise for what I posted online and realise it was not ethical and definitely wrong to post such a video at this point in time.

“We indeed took the drink off the shelves and drank it. Although we indeed paid for the drinks in the end, there is no excuse that the video we posted was not right.

“We were indeed really childish and immature. I know most of you have tweeted that we should go to jail for this and we should be punished.

“But I really hope you guys can give us a second chance. We were really doing it out of stupidity and our own pleasure although I know it did not turned out as fun as it was to us. I really want to apologise to everyone affected by my video.”
