A dad and his four-year-old daughter choked to death on toxic fumes as he cooked drugs in the family home.

Turkish media said the tragedy is believed to have happened when Ibrahim Kansuz, 34, was preparing drugs for personal consumption.

He was with his wife Songul Kansuz and their four-year-old daughter Eylul Mina Kansuz at their home in Darica District, Kocaeli Province at the time.

The incident is believed to have taken place in the early hours of 16th October.

Relatives who went to the family home were unable to get in, so they called police, who broke open the front door and entered the smoke-filled flat.

Paramedics found the three lying motionless on the floor and were only able to pronounce Ibrahim and his daughter dead.

Their bodies were taken to a morgue to be autopsied.

Unconscious Songul was given first aid at the scene before being taken to Gebze Fatih State Hospital, where she was treated and then transferred to another facility.

Her condition was described in reports as “serious”.

The couple’s other children were spared injury or worse because they were staying with a relative at the time.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
