This is the footage of a panting dog which has been tied up with an ultra-short lead and left on the roof of a house without water in the scorching summer sun in Tenerife.

The heartbreaking incident took place in Tacoronte, a neighbourhood in the north of the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife.

The footage shows the animal chained to a wall by a short lead. The dog is constantly panting and it has no shade or water in sight.

The temperatures in August in Tenerife often rise above 30 degrees Celsius during the day. The highest temperature ever recorded in Tenerife in August was of 44.3 degrees Celsius.

According to local media, neighbours in the area contacted PACMA, a local political party which defends and protects animal’s rights, and they called the local police.

The police reportedly went to the address where the dog was shortly after. It has been reported that the person who lived at the house explained to the cops that the animal belonged to a friend of his who had already come to pick it up.

It is unknown if the owner of the dog has been arrested or will be prosecuted for negligence.

The video of the animal was later posted by PACMA on social media to denounce the frequency with which these types of situations occur on closed terraces, balconies and unguarded plots of land in the Canary Islands.
