This is the shocking moment a woman intentionally sets fire to a bus driver after dousing him with a flammable liquid, critically injuring him.
Cops arrested 37-year-old Rosemeire Araujo de Lima, who was caught on CCTV carrying out the shocking act at the bus station in the Brazilian city of Anapolis on the afternoon of Wednesday, 1st September.
The footage shows how people in the busy bus station panic as fire breaks out in front of the parked bus.
It also shows how the bus driver, named as Walison Barbosa dos Santos, spends several minutes on fire before people eventually come to his aid, using fire extinguishers to put out the flames.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition with second- and third-degree burns to 80 per cent of his body.
The flammable liquid he was doused with is believed to be alcohol.
Passenger Washington Rodrigo told news site Mais Goias that the pair had argued moments before the attempted murder.
He said: “I’d just arrived at the terminal when I heard an explosion and shouting, then a stampede broke out. When I managed to see what was going on, the bus was on fire and I saw the driver on fire, trying to remove his clothes.”
People at the scene apprehended the suspect and restrained her until the police arrived and arrested her for attempted murder.
Officers will now investigate the motive for the crime. The working hypothesis is that she suffers from mental problems.
The investigation is ongoing.
