A viral video shows the moment cops grab a suspected robber, who proceeds to lose GBP 3,800 as it falls out from his clothing.
When quizzed about the source of the hidden wealth, which amounted to CLP 4 million, the man claimed he had worked hard to earn it.
Despite his protestations, he was later identified as the person who had robbed a father and son shortly after they had withdrawn the cash from a bank in San Miguel, Santiago de Chile Province, on 23rd December.
The man was one of three who had attacked the pair and made them hand over the cash at gunpoint.
But he failed to make a clean getaway, as he was spotted travelling on the Santiago Metro a short while later.
After his arrest, he was identified as a 27-year-old man of Venezuelan nationality.
Officers from the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI) confirmed that the arrest had taken place at Lo Vial underground station.
During the arrest, the suspect could be heard shouting “there’s all the money” after hundreds of CLP-10,000 bills fell from under his T-shirt.
However, he refused to accept it was stolen and said: “I worked, asshole.”
Police confirmed they had caught two of the three attackers and recovered most of the stolen money.
