This video – seen more than four million times online – shows an ingenious schoolgirl using a scorching-hot central heating pipe as a curling iron.

The girl named only as ‘Xiao Lin’ likes to maintain a perfect fringe but is not able to do so while living in her school dormitories because she does not have a curler, her mum revealed.

The inventive child from the city of Xining, capital of Qinghai Province in north-western China, showed her mum a video of her curling her hair on the hot metal pipe on 30th November.

The proud parent shared the clip online, where it quickly went viral and attracted several thousand comments.

In the clip, Xiao Lin can be seen wrapping her fringe around the metal pipe and using it as a curling iron.

Photos she later shared with her mum show her successful results.

Xiao Lin’s mum said: “While at home, she always needs to use a curler after washing her hair, otherwise her fringe looks really ugly.

“But she doesn’t have a curler in her dormitory, so she came up with this idea to look pretty.

“We use underfloor heating at home, but at school, they have central heating supplied through these sorts of pipes.

“It’s hot enough [to use as a curler].”
