This is the moment a masked man armed with a huge samurai sword empties the cash register at a popular Tenerife tourist bar in under two minutes – making off with over 1,300 GBP.

The robbery took place in the town of Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife, the biggest of the Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa and the thug is said to have threatened staff with the blade.

According to local reports, the event occurred at around 10 pm last Wednesday in a bar called La Bodeguita Tito’s.

The footage recorded by the restaurant’s CCTV system shows a man entering the bar and taking out a huge samurai sword he had hidden in his trousers.

He then went to the bar where the cash register was, waving his sword and appearing to threaten staff members.

The robber can then be seen turning to the workers in a threatening manner as they watch him empty the cash register of a reported 1,500 EUR (1,361 GBP).

He then walks towards the exit, but not before hiding his weapon in his trousers and walking out of the restaurant calmly, all in under a minute and a half.

The restaurant workers told reporters: “Fortunately, no one was injured since the workers acted in the only possible way given the circumstances,”.

The establishment also confirmed that they reported the robbery to the police.

The National Police are conducting an investigation but the identity of the thief is still unknown.
