This is the moment the Russian authorities discover gold ore in an old safe that was found at the site of tragic dam bust that killed 17 people and injured dozens of others.

The video was released by the Investigative Committee of Russia following a dam disaster last week in the district of Kuraginsky in the central Russian region of Krasnoyarsk Krai.

In the footage, workers are seen using cutters to open the large metal safe before prising open the top with a crowbar.

They tip the contents onto the ground, including the sealed gold ore and materials used in its processing.

According to local media, there were 39 lbs of gold ore in the safe. Once processed, it would yield approximately 5 lbs of processed gold, which would reportedly be worth approximately 5.4 million RUB (65,800 GBP).

Reports said that the money will be used to compensate families of the victims killed in the dam accident that killed 17 people.

When the dam ruptured, a 16-foot wave formed which flooded the nearby gold mine.

The Investigative Committee suspects that mining violations caused the accident and the company’s CEO and foreman have reportedly been arrested as the investigation continues.
