A Russian student who went on a rampage before turning the gun on himself carried out the killings as revenge after his girlfriend was allegedly gang-raped by his college peers.
This footage shows the scenes during the shooting which took place at the Amur Construction College of Housing and Utilities Infrastructure in the city of Blagoveshchensk in the far-eastern Russian region of Amur Oblast.
Earlier reports said that Daniil Zasorin opened fire during a lecture after the teacher had ordered him out of the class for misbehaving on two occasions.
On the second dismissal from class, Zasorin returned with a weapon, described by local media as an IZH-81 pump-action shotgun.
However, the latest information from Russian media says that Sasorin may have carried out the shooting in revenge because several students at the college allegedly raped his girlfriend.
“They raped his girlfriend in the dorm,” one student told Russian outlet Channel 360.
According to reports, the girl did not write a statement to the police, but he decided to get even with the alleged offenders.
The suspect wounded four students and one of them died in the attack.
Latest reports said that one of the victims who survived – Alexey Golubnichy – is due to get married in two weeks.
A traffic cop ran into the college after hearing gunshots and fired at the suspect who was wounded. Zasorin then shot himself, according to reports.
Latest updates also suggest that Zasorin was reportedly bullied by classmates on a regular basis.
The motive has yet to be confirmed by the Russian authorities.
Local media said the woman has also yet to report the incident to the police.
Reports said there were around 150 students in the building at the time of the shooting.
According to local media, Golubnichy died of his injuries while 20-year-old Vladislav Rozhkov, 19-year-old Kasiyan Kamanets, and 17-year-old Egor Stasyuk have all been hospitalised.
Armed police also pointed guns at the college from a nearby street.
The shooter’s bag was later discovered in a toilet with more bullets hidden inside.
A Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson said: “The perpetrator committed suicide using his own gun. It was registered in his own name.”
Netizen ‘Dalidovich271168’ said: “This is just mad! How can this happen in broad daylight? Let’s look around and be kind to people. Especially children, they still have their life ahead of them. I am so sorry for these youngsters.”
The investigation is ongoing.
