Russia Says Its Artillery Supports Infantry Shooting At Ukrainian Targets With BMP-3

These images purport to show Russian artillery supporting the country’s infantry while it engages Ukrainian forces.

The video shows Russian artillery opening fire, reportedly on Ukrainian positions on the frontlines.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Monday, 22nd January, along with a statement claiming: “Servicemen of the 1st Guards Tank Army of the ‘Western’ group of forces spoke about their tasks in the Northern Military District zone.”

The Russian MoD said that the footage was filmed near Kupiansk.

The statement also said: “An experienced armoured group commander with the call sign ‘Vect’, awarded the Order of Courage for performing combat missions, told us who becomes the target of his combat vehicle.”

The commander is quoted as saying: “The main tasks are to support our infantry with fire, usually from indirect fire positions, sometimes with direct fire. We work mainly against enemy infantry, light fortifications, and mortars.

“The enemy really doesn’t like this car, due to the fact that the shot is hard to hear, and they don’t hear the exit, so they don’t have time to quickly react to the shelling. The BMP-3 allows you to operate from a distance of up to 7 kilometres.

“The minimum distance is 500 meters if direct fire. The car is reliable, and unpretentious, it drives until the end, it carries on, even if it gets knocked down, even the engine doesn’t stall. The armament of the BMP-3 allows you to work against fortifications, armoured vehicles, and enemy personnel, even when they are in shelters.”

The statement also said: “Servicemen of the 1st Guards Tank Army of the West group of troops note the importance of performing combat missions and the burden of responsibility that rests on their shoulders. But, despite the excitement, each target is successfully hit.”

I have been operating the BMP-3 since March last year. The car behaves perfectly, performs its tasks perfectly, and is unpretentious. They came under fire.
