Russia Says It Hit Ukrainian Military Positions With TOS-1A ‘Solntsepyok’

Russia has said that it has destroyed Ukrainian military positions using a TOS-1A “Solntsepyok”.

The footage reportedly shows the Russian TOS-1A “Solntsepyok” manoeuvring into position before it deploys its deadly ordnance and fires it into the sky.

The images then cut to footage showing a number of explosions on the battlefield.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence on Monday, 12th February, along with a statement claiming: “Crews of the Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems daily carry out fire missions to destroy fortified long-term strong points, positions and dugouts with armoured vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and defeat manpower.

“Control and adjustment of the targets being hit are carried out by crews of unmanned aerial vehicles, which transmit the results of the destruction to the command post in real time.

“The heavy flamethrower system TOS-1A ‘Solntsepek’ is also designed for fire support of infantry and tanks, destruction of open and closed firing positions in various types of defensive and offensive combat, as well as for disabling enemy lightly armoured equipment and vehicles.

“TOS-1A operates in combat formations of supported troops from open and closed positions.

The package contains 24 thermobaric shells. They are capable of covering an area of ​​up to 40,000 square meters while destroying lightly armoured vehicles and fortifications.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 12th February 2024, Russia had lost approximately 395,990 personnel, 6,416 tanks, 11,977 armoured combat vehicles, 9,481 artillery units, 981 multiple launch rocket systems, 666 air defence systems, 332 warplanes, 325 helicopters, 7,302 drones, 1,882 cruise missiles, 24 warships, 1 submarine, 12,599 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 1,514 units of special equipment.

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February 2022 in what the Kremlin is still calling a “special military operation.” Today marks the 719th day of the full-scale war.

Ukraine has reported that Russian forces are using Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service terminals in occupied areas, with intercepted communication serving as evidence.

Starlink systems have been crucial for Ukraine’s battlefield communications during Russia’s nearly two-year-old invasion.

Starlink denies selling terminals to Russia or being aware of others doing so, stating its network does not operate in Russia.

There are reportedly concerns that Russian troops might be obtaining and using them, including in occupied Ukrainian areas.

Russian TOS-1A ‘Solntsepyok’ Fires Rockets At Ukrainian Military Positions

Ukraine’s air defence systems have destroyed 14 of 17 drones launched by Russia, along with one Kh-59 cruise missile, according to Ukraine’s Air Force on Monday. While Russia also launched S300 missiles, it is unclear if they hit any targets.

Oleh Synehubov, Governor of Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, reported that Russia has attacked the region with S300 missiles launched from Belgorod, Russia. Preliminary information indicates no casualties, but some non-residential buildings suffered damage late on Sunday.

The strike hit an oil depot, causing fires that burned half a street and killed an elderly couple. Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported 57 injuries and 15 homes destroyed.

Ukraine has said it destroyed most of the 45 attack drones launched by Russia overnight, with little damage reported on Sunday morning.
