A homeowner who heard odd scratching sounds coming from his living room wall was shocked to find a cute kitten peering back at him after cutting out a hole in the plaster.

Netizen ‘D.E.Heffun’ from the southern Japanese prefecture of Tokushima posted photos on Twitter which have been liked 146,000 times and retweeted by 54,000 people.

He explained that he was freaked out by the scratching sounds coming from his living room and initially decided to ignore it.

However, when the scratching continued he knew he had to cut a hole in the wall to see what was on the other side, and was shocked to see a cute fluffy kitten staring back at him.

He still does not know how the tiny feline got behind his wall, but he suspects that it somehow got into the loft and slipped down a gap between the interior and exterior walls.

Fortunately, the kitten did not suffer any injuries and appeared to be a stray.

As its mum did not come looking for it, ‘D.E.Heffun’ has now decided that the adorable kitten can continue to live with him.

He admitted on Twitter that before cutting a hole in the wall, he said to himself: “If I save it, I’m going to take care of it for the rest of its life.”

Two days after being pulled out of the wall, he posted a video of the cute cat on social media and said “maybe our meeting was a kind of destiny”.
