Romain Landeloos, 18, and 16-year-old Margaux Remacle died when a competitor’s car veered off the road and ploughed into them.

The smash took place at the Condroz-Huy Rally near Wanze on 6th November.

The couple’s devastated parents have now told Belgian media that the two will remain side by side in death, as they will be buried together on 12th November.

The cemetery in Geer where they will be laid to rest is also where Margaux’s grandfather is buried.

Cedric Remacle told local media: “My father, Margaux’s grandfather, rests there and will watch over them. I’m very sure of that.”

Fabrice Landeloos – Romain’s father – added: “Our children will never be separated. They lived together and they will remain together even in death.”

Romain and Margaux met online nearly two years ago and went to numerous car rallies together.

One family member told Belgian media: “They loved cars. It was an interest they shared. They were really made for each other.”

Their bodies are currently lying in wake at Margaux’s family home to allow friends and relatives to pay their last respects before they are buried.

The grieving parents also denied allegations that the teenagers had strayed into a prohibited zone.

Cedric told local media: “Our children are not to blame. We have been to the scene of the accident. They walked up a small path, which was not a restricted area.”

He added: “It’s fate’s fault, that’s what the police have told us.”

Nathalie – Romain’s mother – also added: “They knew what they were doing and they didn’t do anything stupid.”

Romain’s parents said they harboured no hard feelings towards the driver who killed them.

They told local media: “The rally is their job. It was an accident.”

Romain also leaves behind siblings Thibault, 15, and Emilie, 24, while Margaux leaves behind a brother, who is in secondary school.

Two others were hospitalised after the accident on Sunday and there has been no update on their conditions, though they were reported at the time to not be critical.
