This is the moment two adorable elephants trekking through the woods are filmed stopping in the middle of a coffee plantation to ‘sightsee’.

The majestic beasts were captured on camera as they wandered through the township of Puyi in Ning’er Hani and Yi Autonomous County, which is where China’s famous Pu’er tea originates in south-western Yunnan Province.

The two Asian elephants (Elephas maximus), which are believed to be related, strolled into the stepped coffee farm and for some unknown reason stopped in the middle of the plantation.

Local villagers then caught the moment the two animals suddenly stopped and look down the side of the hilly farm together, as if “sightseeing”, the municipal government reported.

Farmers who were able to get closer to the elephants also saw them jostling and play-fighting while out on their leisurely stroll, which ended with them enter the nearby woods.

Ning’er county’s forestry bureau said the recent elephant appearance may be the result of especially high temperatures, which are forcing them out from their forests in search of food and water.

Elephants are “smart”, often following the smell of coffee beans to nearby banana plantations, officials said.

Officials said the elephants would be monitored to ensure they did not enter any private residences and endanger local villagers.
