A Majorca town councillor under fire for hiring a go-go dancer in a racy outfit to perform at a party says it was a mistake as he was not given the option when booking to choose the type of music and entertainment provided.
The party was held this weekend in the town of Port de Pollenca in the Spanish Balearic island of Majorca in the east of the country.
Pictures from the party show the town’s councillor Andres Nevado posing with a young go-go dancer in a revealing see-through top during the party.
Reports said that several political parties including Unides Podem Pollenca, Junt:s Avancam and Alternativa per Pollenca released a public statement together criticising the party and demanding an explanation.
The political parties reportedly complained about the offensive way go-go dancers were treated at the party.
They added that the pictures shared on social media were “normalising something that should not be normalised in these times.”
Councillor Nevado said: “We hired a company that offered music and entertainment but they never specify which kind. We never thought that the entertainment would be this kind of spectacle that we saw and that we do not agree with.
“I would like to insist that we did not hire an erotic dance intentionally.”
Partygoer Montse Castro told Central European News: “I saw the dance that provoked the outrage and I did not see anything pornographic or distasteful, there was no striptease to make people feel that angry.
“It seems more like a political dispute. It seems to me that some people disapprove seeing the town of Pollenca enjoying and having a fun party.”
