OLD ON: I Really Am The Oldest Person In The World

A great-grandmother from Nigeria who is said to have just celebrated her 123rd birthday has been hailed the oldest person in the world by her family.

A video of the unnamed woman has been viewed more than 137,000 times since it was shared online by TikTok user Ufuoma Akpovwovwo on 24th December.

Media in Nigeria said she is from the Ekwere community of Delta State.

The clip is believed to show her marking the special occasion with her numerous children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

One section is captioned: “The oldest woman in Nigeria 123 years old.”

She can be seen grinning widely as she sits on a throne-like chair surrounded by her younger family members.

One piece of footage shows her being handed a Bible, apparently as a birthday gift.

And another shows her with three young relatives and is captioned, ‘The oldest woman with her numb 3 grand children’.

Bafflingly, Nigerian media reported that the woman is 125 years old, but captions in the footage claim she has just turned 123.

Either age could make her the oldest person in the world if her records can be independently verified.

The oldest living person in the world is widely believed to be French nun Lucile Randon, who will be 119 on 11th February.

However, there are often claims of people even older than Lucile, who is blind and wheelchair-bound, but whose ages cannot be confirmed.

If the elderly Nigerian is, in fact, 123, it means she may be the only person alive born in the 19th century.
