These images show a giant watermelon-sized tumour – measuring 6 inches across – found in a woman’s uterus who pals thought looked pregnant.

Ms Shi, 38, said she knew she could not be pregnant because she still had regular periods, but she noted that they lasted longer than before, and she bled more than usual.

The native of Yangzhou in East China’s Jiangsu Province gained about 11 pounds in three months.

She finally checked herself into the Yangzhou Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital last month after experiencing constant dizziness.

Ms Shi said: “I gained weight, and everyone thought I was pregnant.”

Her doctor, Huang Jingbing, ordered scans which revealed a large ball-shaped growth in her uterus, causing her womb to bulge and giving others the impression of her being pregnant.

Doctor Huang noted: “The tumour was so big it made her seem like she was five or six months pregnant.

“It was about 15 centimetres (6 inches) across, and weighed over 1.5 kilogrammes (3.3 pounds).”

The watermelon-sized tumour was removed in a caesarean section-like procedure on 24th September, the medic said.

The growth was removed in full, and Ms Shi is not expected to suffer any long-term effects.

Doctor Huang urged women over the age of 35 to undergo regular checks for possible uterine tumours.
