A jilted lover stabbed his ex in the neck with a knife on a dance floor after she turned down his plea to take him back.
Victim Francislaine de Camargo Santos, 33, was at a party in Curitiba, Parana state, southern Brazil with her mother and a female friend when she was approached by her former boyfriend.
The 49-year-old man – whose name was withheld in reports – reportedly begged Francislaine to take him back, but she refused.
He left the party but returned in the early hours of 8th September with a utility knife.
The victim’s mother Joana Soares de Camargo said her daughter was dancing with a woman when her ex walked in and stabbed her in the neck.
Civil Police said he then tried to take his own life with the same blade but was stopped and taken to hospital in a serious condition.
But Francislaine – mum to a 13-year-old daughter – died at the scene in front of her mother.
Francislaine worked as a child care giver at the Pequeno Cotolengo Healthcare Complex in Curitiba, said her family.
Joana told local media: “She was a sweet, affectionate girl, she chatted with everyone, she was good at heart.
“I don’t know how this could have happened to her. She was my little companion.
“Before leaving, she asked me if I could come, to protect her. I went to protect her and I didn’t have time.”
If her attacker survives, he will be charged with her murder, reported local media.
