This is the moment a young mum appears to abandon her baby daughter on the pavement in front of a house.
The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in the locality of Kennedy in the central Colombian capital Bogota and the footage shows a young woman placing the baby outside a building entrance before walking away.
According to local media, the owners of the property discovered the newborn and immediately informed the police who took the baby girl to a nearby hospital for checks where she was given a clean bill of health.
Police spokesman Roberto Carlos Sanchez told local media: “The mother’s identity is being investigated.”
Reports said that the baby is currently being cared for by the Colombian Family Welfare Institute and she is in good health.
According to the organisation, three children are abandoned in the South American country every day.
In Colombia, abandoning children is a criminal offence that is punishable with between two and nine years in prison.
Bogota has the highest number of cases followed by the Colombian departments of Antioquia, Valle del Cauca and Risaralda, according to the Colombian Family Welfare Institute.
The investigation is ongoing and it is not yet known if the mother has been identified or located.
