The officers are seen comforting the 12-year-old girl as she lies on the floor with her feet apparently shackled to an old engine.

Reports said that local residents, who fed the girl through a hole in the wall, informed the authorities about the situation.

The General Attorney’s Office and the police quickly moved to rescue the young girl.

The child requires special needs and she was tied up by her mother whenever she had to go to work, according to local media.

The unnamed mum has been arrested while the girl has been hospitalised with signs of malnutrition and dehydration, according to reports.

Paola Hitscher Angulo, spokeswoman for the General Attorney’s Office, told reporters: “The girl has special needs. We have opened an investigation and will press charges against the parent’s for crimes against the girl’s life, body and health.”

It is currently unknown where the father is and the young girl is expected to be transferred to an orphanage when she recovers, according to local media.
