This is the moment the metal roof of a Mexican market collapses in a heavy hailstorm as the people inside run to safety.

The shocking scenes were recorded at the vegetable section of the market in the municipality of Iztapalapa, in the Mexican capital Mexico City.

In the video, heavy rain can be seen falling when the metal roof suddenly collapses. Marketgoers can be seen sprinting to safety from the collapsing roof and thick hail can be seen lining the ground.

A man can be heard telling people to “go, go” and he expresses his shock, saying “look at what has just happened”.

Other footage taken from inside the market shows the metal panelling crashing to the ground as gusts of wind batter the stalls.

Local media report two people were injured in the collapse, while six workers were trapped underneath before later being rescued.

Reports state three people suffered anxiety attacks in the incident but the Head of the Government of Mexico City Claudi Sheinbaum confirmed that there were no deaths.

The market stalls had been closed at the time of the accident.

The Secretariat of Risk Management and Civil Protection said that the accident had been caused by the hailstorm and they confirmed that 2,000 stalls had been affected.
