This is the shocking moment an impostor motorbike courier throws acid in the face of a police sergeant under the pretext of delivering a surprise hamper.
The incident was filmed outside the victim’s home in the township of Bandar Indera Mahkota in the city of Kuantan in the western Malaysian state of Pahang, and the footage was later shared on Facebook where it has been viewed 220,000 times.
The 51-year-old victim, identified as police sergeant Sjn Kamarul Zaharin Abdullah, was reportedly attacked with corrosive liquid by a man impersonating a motorbike courier.
The police have reportedly arrested two men suspected of being behind the acid attack.
Pahang police spokesperson Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said the main suspect, a 41-year-old tow truck driver, was detained in front of a restaurant in Kemaman in the neighbouring state of Terengganu.
He added: “The suspect, also from Kemaman is believed to be holding a grudge against the victim after he allegedly leaked the suspect’s marriage status to his girlfriend’s family.”
The police also arrested the 40-year-old owner of the motorcycle used in the alleged attack.
Officers confiscated the man’s motorbike and the helmet believed to have been used by the tow truck driver in the acid attack.
Both suspects have been remanded in custody for seven days as the investigation continues, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the victim, who suffered burns to his face and back, is reportedly receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
