This is the moment a huge chubby rat munches on a sugary delicacy at a French pastry store in Hong Kong that has now been closed.
French bakery chain Passion by Gerard Dubois has confirmed that it will temporarily close the store in the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Hong Kong in south-eastern China after the video.
The footage, showing a large rat munching on a sugary treat in the pastry store, was widely shared on Facebook and the company announced plans to fumigate the facilities during the closure.
In an online statement, the French company also said that they have reached out to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department for a meeting.
The pastry firm, while apologising for any discomfort caused by the incident, reassured clients that food safety and hygiene standards are their top priority
A company spokesperson told local media that they were informed of the online video last week and were shocked by the “unacceptable” incident.
They said that the branch is located in an older building and that rats have been spotted in other areas as well.
The spokesperson confirmed it was the Tsim Sha Tsui store’s first reported incident of rodents and said they will dispose of its pastry counters during the cleanup.
