This is the moment a brave man tries to save his pet poodle from being savaged by a pit bull – with both man and poodle being bitten but ultimately surviving the attack.

The incident took place outside the man’s home in the city of Conselheiro Lafaiete in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais on Wednesday, 11th August.

CCTV footage shows how systems analyst Allan Campos de Oliveira, 42, tries to hold his pet poodle and pull it out of the reach of the unchained pit bull while he attempts to open his front door.

However, the pit bull manages to grab the poodle’s leg between its jaws and a struggle then ensues, with Allan bravely putting his body between his pet poodle and the pit bull.

Allan ended up falling to the ground in the attack, which saw the pit bull biting his hand and his pet poodle, named Toto, needing its ear reconstructed and stitches to its neck and paw.

The attack eventually ended when Allan shouted for help and workers on a nearby construction site as well as local residents came to the poodle’s aid.

However, the attack was not over and the pit bull again managed to snatch Toto from Allan’s grip and drag him down the street before it was stopped by the good samaritans.

Following the attack, Allan told reporters: “Thank God he survived, but it was very traumatic both for me and for him. I thought I’d lose my finger and I didn’t think my dog would survive.”

Allan reported the incident to the police. However, at the time of reporting, the pit bull’s owner had not been found.
