A model who sparked outrage when she posed topless for a photoshoot in an Islamic region has donned a hijab and told how she will convert to Islam.
Moscow influencer Arina Volfson faced fury when she posed for a revealing photoshoot outside well-known beauty spots in devoutly Muslim Dagestan.
One showed her wearing just bikini bottoms as she gazed out over what appears to be the Russian Republic’s rugged Caspian Sea coastline.
But after a furious online firefight with angry Muslim groups, 19-year-old Arina stunned her critics by appearing in a hijab just days later.
Instead of her usual glamorous bikinis and crop tops, she was dressed head to toe in a modest black gown with a green scarf over her make-up-free face.
Arina told Islamic podcaster Murad Aliskerov on 22nd May: “The words that were spoken by me were said thoughtlessly.
“I came to people to explain to me what they mean, and I have decided to convert to Islam. I will study this religion, and I hope this will not happen again.”
She told the interviewer she had not been threatened with fundamentalist religious reprisals.
Aliskerov said: “I don’t know whether she will accept Islam or not, but since she came to me, I had to help in any way I can.
“I don’t know why she decided to address me specifically through her brothers. I don’t know if this will happen again or not on her part.”
But he hit out at “vulgar hyenas” who claim to be Muslim yet still lust after models like Arina.
He said: “I would like to appeal to those unfortunates who, like hyenas, run around such girls.
“Our fellow countrymen write to her with vulgar requests, proposals for meetings or intimacy. Shame on you, unfortunates.”
Arina’s original response to the anger from her shoot in Dabgestan – where 80 per cent of the population is Muslim – could not have been more different.
A video she had released previously branded her critics hypocrites saying: “People who are clean inside will never carry dirt outside.”
She went on: “I appeal to you, Muslims – 90 per cent of those who write to me do not live according to Sharia.
“Do you pray five times a day? You don’t smoke? Don’t drink? Did you have relationships before marriage?
“No, you don’t have to teach me how to live and dress.”
Both her messages appear to have done little to abate her critics, with both posts being deleted before a few more photos of a once again scantily-clad Volfson were posted, according to local media.
