This woman who posted a video of herself with a bleeding and bruised eye has been rescued from a reportedly abusive relationship after the video was widely shared on social media.
The Indian woman, named in reports as Jasmine Sultana, 33, wrote in the caption to the video that she lives in the city of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and said she needed “help urgently”.
In the clip, Sultana can be seen bleeding from her left eye which is seriously swollen and bruised.
She wrote in the caption: “I want help urgently because I don’t want to stay in UAE any more with my husband I want to go back my home country India with my kids one is 5-year-old and second is 17 months old am from Bangalore India …..currently am in Sharjah uae (sic).”
The video received over 25,000 retweets and local media report Sharjah Police acted quickly and her husband Mohammed Khizar Ulla, also Indian, was arrested.
The Sharjah Police wrote online that “the case was dealt with by the competent authorities” and Sultana thanked the cops for their “kind support” in a separate post.
She added: “require help and support till we reach my home country India Bangalore safely me and my kids #indian embassy (sic).”
The suspect remains in custody but it is unclear if he has been charged.
