Showy Indian Wedding With Bride Dripping In Gold Prompts Police Probe

This is the moment an Indian man brags about the large sums of cash paid to a groom by the family of his gold-covered bride on her wedding day, prompting a police investigation into the source of the wealth.

The wedding took place in the city of Shamli in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, and the footage has been widely shared on social media.

The video shows the man displaying cash with notes piled up on the table which were reportedly only a fraction of the total amount given. It is unclear exactly who the man was orwhat his relationship was to the families of the bride and groom.

A dowry is a transfer of parental property, gifts, and money for the daughter’s wedding day by her family.

In the footage, a man brags about the amount of cash on show, as well as jewellery and the keys to an SUV, and the bride is later seen wearing a huge gold necklace that flows to her lap.

The father of the bride is a clothes trader in Gujarat and the groom is a cloth merchant from Karnataka, according to reports.

After the footage was widely shared on social media, the local police caught wind and have reportedly opened an investigation.

Netizen ‘N. Soma’ commented: “Why salaried classes are taxed so high in our Bharat, look at this display of Gold and hard cash, now I feel cheated for all the taxes paid and zero benefits, you need to collect taxes from everyone and not just milk salaried class.”

‘Gurugarry10’ said: “The income tax department must investigate this family.”
