A beautiful saxophonist has claimed that a former Mexican congressman is responsible for the horrific acid attack that has left her hospitalised for three months with severe injuries over her body.
Stunning musician Maria Elena Rios Ortiz, 26, was attacked with acid three months ago while walking on the street in the city of Huajuapan de Leon in the central Mexican state of Oaxaca with her mum.
Reports said it was the state’s first-ever recorded acid attack and Rios Ortiz has undergone several operations at the General hospital Dr Aurelio Valdivieso following the incident on 11th September.
She has reportedly been hospitalised there ever since the shocking incident.
The victim claims that a powerful oil businessman and former Mexican congressman is behind the attack, according to reports.
She also claims that the suspect, who was part of Rios Ortiz’ past, has threatened her life since the acid attack three months ago.
The musician has informed state prosecutors of the man’s identity.
Meanwhile, relatives have identified him as Juan Vera Carrizal, an oil businessman and former congressman, according to local media.
Reports said that Vera Carrizal has admitted he knows the victim, but denies being involved in the acid attack.
Rios Ortiz has allegedly received death threats from the suspect since the attack and the evidence has been sent to prosecutors, according to local media.
Her family are fearful that the powerful businessman could evade justice and even went to a political event in Huajuapan attended by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to personally ask him for his help, according to reports.
The president promised to help the family and reportedly asked a federal government worker to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, Rios Ortiz’ family has claimed that they are not receiving any legal aid or medical help since the attack.
It is currently unclear when the victim will leave hospital.
Prosecutors have yet make any public statements regarding the incident and Vera Carrizal’s alleged involvement.
The investigation is ongoing.
