Two men have been sentenced to 11 years of prison for manslaughter after throwing the body of this woman who died in a zipline accident into a remote Andean river.

According to local media, Jainor Huila Huaman, 19 and Luzgardo Pillcopata Amaru, 21, were condemned to 11 years in prison for manslaughter, obstructing the work of justice and robbery.

The two men were the owners of a popular zip-line in the Peruvian Andes where Spanish-Ecuadorian woman Nathaly Salazar, 29, went missing on 1st January 2018 while holidaying in southern Peru.

She had visited the Incan ruin of Moray and was in Maras to begin a journey to Cacllaracay when she decided to try the zip-line, a long cable running down an incline that you sit or hold onto.

With local excursions boasting that the line is one of the longest in the world and offers stunning views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Salazar thought she would have a go and reportedly suffered a head injury.

The owner and an employee of The Flight of the Condor Zip-Line near the area of Maras admitted to dumping her body in the river after the fatal accident as they were scared.

They reportedly threw the body into the river in a remote spot known as Paucarbamba after taking her phone, wallet and camera from her.

After hearing their testimony, local authorities carried out a thorough search of the area but they have been unable to find the body.

The victim’s mother Alejandra Ayala stayed in the nearby town of Cuzco and assisted the police with the search. She last spoke with her daughter on 31st December and reported that she was “well and happy”.

The family have told local media they intend to appeal the sentence to the Supreme Court of Cuzco as they believe the victim’s death was not accidental but intentional.

Nathaly Salazar’s sister, whose name has not been reported, said: “If it was manslaughter, why did they hide the evidence and my sister’s body obstructing justice?”

The family reportedly intends to appeal to the court to separate the two convicts who are in the prison of Quencoro in Cuzco.

The family reportedly intends to stop them from supporting each other and force a confession about where the body might be, local media reported.
