This builder has fallen off a construction site platform and a reinforcement steel rod pierced his bottom and went through several organs up to his chest where it narrowly missed his heart.

The unnamed construction worker fell on the rebar in the county of Deqing in the city of Huzhou in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang and he was rushed to the Zhejiang University No 2 Hospital for emergency treatment.

According to local media, the young builder was working at a construction site when he fell off a platform that was nearly four metres (13 feet) high.

The unfortunate man landed on a rebar that pierced the young man’s bottom and went all the way up to his chest.

Hospital scans show that the metal rod ended up just three centimetres from his heart.

The builder was unconscious when he arrived at hospital and Doctor Chen Congcong and a team of experts immediately formulated a plan to remove the bar and save the man’s life.

The difficult procedure needed several doctors to successfully remove the rebar, including liver specialist Doctor Ke and gastrointestinal specialist Doctor Liang who was responsible for taking it out of his intestine.

The rebar was finally removed at around 3am the next day without complication.

Luckily, the 22-year-old patient survived the operation and is currently recovering in hospital.

Doctor Chen said: “The rebar hurt the man’s liver, intestines and lungs. Fortunately, it missed his heart otherwise nobody could have saved him.”
