The remarkable video captures a man tumbling into the river after being startled by his golden retriever after it brushed against him.
Surveillance camera footage from the city of Xiamen, located in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian, depicted the man sitting on the concrete fence of the river embankment at around 1:23pm on 17th February.
But just seconds into the video, he can be seen falling into the river, with water up to his ankles, after he was startled when his dog brushed against him.
When another nearby man turned to see if the man was alright, he got out of the river and gave the dog a firm tap on the rear to chase it away in a state of anger.
The video prompted many comments after it was shared on China’s version of TikTok, Douyin, later that day, leaving many users unable to hold back from sharing their thoughts.
Douyin user ‘Big Goose’ said: “He rolled down on his own. At most, the dog hair only touched him a little bit.”
Then user ‘Little Crybaby’ commented: “Anyone who has ever raised a golden retriever knows that it does this on purpose.”
And ‘Feitian Zhen Baozhu’ added: “The spanking was a bit like spanking a son.”
The video has reached more than 11,000 likes and another 39,000 shares as of 20th February.
