A 31-year-old man has been arrested for stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the chest three times because she refused to get back together with him.

The incident took place in the town of Zheleznogorsk-Ilimsky in the southern Russian region of Irkutsk Oblast when the victim, identified as Tatyana Borkina, got into the suspect’s car to talk.

Her ex-boyfriend, named as 31-year-old Maxim Klimov, told her he wanted to get back together but she refused, according to local media.

After being rejected, he drove to a nearby forest where he reportedly beat her with a baseball bat.

Klimov then allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest three times, twisting the knife on one occasion.

Miraculously, Borkina reportedly managed to crawl 300 metres (984 feet) to the road with broken legs and chest wounds where she was then spotted by a passing motorist who took her to hospital.

Local media said she spent the next three days in a coma in hospital and when she regained consciousness, she was stunned to discover that Klimov had been questioned by the police and released.

It is believed that the suspect was released after stressing that he had a young child he needed to take care of.

After the incident was made public, the police re-arrested the man and have opened a case of attempted murder against him, according to local media.

Reports said that two weeks prior to the incident, Klimov beat Borkina in front of eyewitnesses but the police ignored her complaint.

The investigation is ongoing.
