A German engineer has reportedly butchered his mother with a knife so violently that he left blood everywhere when she turned up at his house and discovered his murdered girlfriend in the bath.

The suspected killer, identified only as Florian E., because of local privacy laws, is accused of killing his girlfriend Tarah A. two days previously.

He then killed her dog as well, leaving the bodies of both in the bathtub in his property in the middle-class quarter of Bramfeld in the German city of Hamburg.

The mother was killed when she turned up and discovered what he had done and wanted to raise the alarm, according to the police.

He then tried to clean up the evidence using powerful detergents and even painting over blood spots on the wall, but he was caught when his father rang because he was worried about his wife.

Realising that his son sounded like he was hiding something, he went to his flat where he spotted his wife’s car in the driveway and called the police.

Officers forced their way into the flat and discovered a pool of blood on the floor and bloodstains around the flat, and then they found the mother’s body.

Florian E. was immediately arrested and taken to the police station and in the meantime, the dead dog and the murdered woman in the bath were also found.

Tarah was only 24 years old and was a student-teacher. They had only become a couple recently.

Senior public prosecutor Nana Frombach said: “Based on the forensic medical examination, we assume that the 24-year-old victim probably died two days before the suspect was arrested.”

The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
