The husband of this woman and father to her two daughters has been jailed for almost 80 years for stabbing them to death and then leaving their rotting bodies in the house while continuing to live there.
The court in the Brazilian municipality of Sao Vicente sentenced Magno Brandao Ferreira to 79 years, four months and 20 days in prison and also fined him after a jury found him guilty of three counts of murder and six counts of theft on 25th May.
The crime took place on 5th June 2018, but was only discovered when the decomposing bodies of Thamiris de Souza Santos, 30, Nayara Machado de Souza Santos, 8, and Nicolly de Souza Santos, 4, were found inside their home four days later.
All three victims had knife wounds.
Ferreira was arrested 15 days after the crime when his own mother reported him to the police.
He had been hiding at his parents’ home when arrested, though he had been living in his own house with the dead bodies before they were discovered.
He was remanded in custody until his recent court appearance when he was given the prison sentence.
He was also convicted of theft, as he made six BRL 500 (GBP 66) withdrawals using his deceased wife’s bank card whose PIN number he knew.
He also used his partner’s phone following her death to confess his crime to his father and try to make it seem as if he had blacked out and was not responsible.
The sales assistant wrote to his dad that he “went to bed and when I woke up I had a knife in my hand”.
Ferreira is believed to have killed his wife following a row and then killed his daughters as well as “revenge”.
It is not reported if the victim intends to appeal the sentence.
