This is the moment a man sitting with a chainsaw freezes as he spots a venomous viper crawling around his crotch before a friend removes it with a stick and kills it.

The bizarre scenes were recorded by an onlooker in the village of Ustikolina in municipality Foca-Ustikolina in south-eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina when the snake, reportedly a horned viper (Vipera ammodytes), was spotted crawling around Agnes Ajanovic’s crotch.

In the video. Ajanovic can be seen sitting on the ground in shorts with a chainsaw in his hands when his friends begin shouting at him, telling him not to move.

The snake can be seen slithering around his crotch and Ajanovic keeps his lower half still but continues smoking a cigarette.

One of his friends then carefully lowers a stick towards the snake before knocking it off Ajanovic who springs to his feet.

The group can then be seen repeatedly hitting the snake with the stick and puncturing it until it seemingly dies. The last clip shows it still moving but this is typically seen in dead snakes.

Ajanovic told reporters: “The feeling is not simple, at first I thought it was a water snake. When I saw that it was a horned viper, I froze immediately…

“I recommend anyone who finds themselves in this situation to stay calm and not move if their heart does not explode from fear… Because otherwise, every move is a bite, which in most cases is deadly. I would like to thank my friend Mehmed Meho Kunovac, who managed to kill the snake.”

The horned viper is found in southern Europe, the Balkans and in some parts of the Middle East. It is believed to be the most dangerous of the European vipers because of its large size. It can reach a maximum length of 95 centimetres (37 inches). It also has long fangs which measure up to 1.3 centimetres (0.5 inches) and its venom is very toxic.
