Supersize Angerson Santos came into the world at Hospital Padre Colombo in Parintins, Amazonas State, on 18th January.

His mum – 27-year-old Cleidiane Santos dos Santos – had gone to the hospital the previous day for a routine obstetric consultation.

It was during the check-up that medics realised her unborn baby was too large to be carried to term.

So surgeons gave her a C-section the next day and not-so-little Angerson was born weighing 7.328 kilogrammes and measuring 59 centimetres.

Medics at the hospital say he is in an incubator in a stable condition and has no abnormalities.

The hospital has now launched a fundraising campaign to help Angerson’s parents, as all the baby clothes they have bought will be too small for their newborn.

The facility is collecting extra-large nappies and clothes for infants aged between nine months and a year.

Angerson smashes the previous record set by Pedro Aluizio, who was born in Parintins in 2014, weighing 6.74 kilogrammes and measuring 57 centimetres.

Before that, the record was held by a baby born in the municipality in 2011 weighing 6.12 kilogrammes and measuring 56 centimetres.

But the heaviest baby ever, according to the Guinness World Records, was a boy, born to Sig. Carmelina Fedele, weighing weighing 10.2 kilogrammes (22 lb 8 oz) in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955.
