Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez has said he “would pay 200 million EUR” for “a number 9 like Harry Kane” because he is “among the best in the world today.”

Mexican legend Sanchez hinted at a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane, 26, in an interview with Spanish sports newspaper ‘Marca’.

When Sanchez was asked if Real Madrid club president Florentino Perez asked for his advice on who to sign to fill the striker position, the legendary forward said: “I am a firm believer that Real Madrid should have two squads and two very strong 9s, especially after Cristiano’s exit.

“There is nobody to cover for Benzema. So, to answer your question, I have been noticing Harry Kane for some time now.”

When told the transfer could cost ‘Los Blancos’ 150 million EUR (127.69 million GBP) Sanchez answered: “I would buy him even if it cost 200 million EUR (170.26 million GBP).

“Cristiano was also very expensive at the time and look at the results he gave. Knowing Florentino and the magic he has, I am sure he could come up with something.”

Sanchez went on to explain: “Real Madrid need to have the best strikers in the world now not tomorrow and I think Kane is among the best in the world right now. If you spend 300 million EUR (255.39 million GBP) on six or seven other players but none guarantee a goal…

“That is why I would pay 200 million for a number 9 like Kane. Of course. Nothing guarantees more matches and more titles than a goal.”

Sanchez played at Real Madrid between the years 1985 and 1992, winning La Liga five consecutive years between the 1985/1986 and 1989/1990 seasons.

He is widely considered to be one of Real Madrid’s best-ever players scoring 208 goals in 283 appearances for the Spanish club giants.
