In the video, the diners are seated underneath the tent when the it suddenly collapses under the weight of the falling man, with the impact destroying their wooden table and sending tableware flying every which way.

Mr Li, one of the customers eating nearby, said: “We heard a loud crash and thought an object had fallen through the canopy and then bounced onto the table.

“But we lifted the canopy and saw a man moving on the ground!”

In the chaos that ensued, diners and restaurant staff lifted the injured man out of the debris and he was later taken to Shajing People’s Hospital for treatment.

He remains in treatment for multiple bone fractures but is not in any life-threatening condition, the facility said.

Accordingly to restaurant owner Mr Wang, three of his customers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Bao’an District police have since confirmed that the man leapt from his 12th-floor home following a row with his father.

However, details of the argument have not been disclosed as further investigations continue.
