This horrific footage shows massive tree trunks falling off the back of an overturning lorry and landing on two scooter passengers and a stopped car.

CCTV footage from the city of Wuxi in East China’s Jiangsu Province appears to show the heavy goods vehicle veering wildly to avoid a scooter which suddenly cuts across the road ahead of it.

The dangerous manoeuvre causes the lorry driver, surnamed Zhu, to lose control of the vehicle, which overturns and spills a dozen or so logs onto the road.

In the video dated 3rd January, the logs can be seen rolling towards the pair on their scooter who try in vain to run away.

The scooter passenger is buried underneath the logs, while the rider is struck on the back of the head and sent flying out of frame.

The logs then roll onto the stopped black saloon car behind them, trapping the female driver inside and crushing her legs.

Heart-wrenching footage of the aftermath shows the injured scooter passenger crying over the body of the rider, who lies motionless on the ground.

Meanwhile, witnesses also filmed the woman driver trapped in her car as the roof is crushed by the heavy logs.

Wuxi authorities now investigating the case said the unnamed scooter rider was declared dead following the accident.

The scooter passenger and the female motorist are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Lorry driver Zhu, 44, has been detained, but it is unclear whether there will be any consequences for him or the scooter rider who appeared to cause the accident, and who can be seen riding away as the crash occurs.
